Emmanuel Thanassoulis, Professor in Management Sciences at Aston Business School, Aston University Birmingham, England has been teaching, researching and applying DEA since the mid 1980's. He heads the Centre for Performance Measurement and Management at Aston University. He is a leading world authority in DEA and has applied it to many fields—such as education, health services, policing and water services. He has secured several research and training grants in DEA and authored over 50 refereed academic publications including E. Thanassoulis (2001) Introduction to the Theory and Application of Data Envelopment Analysis: A foundation text with integrated software, Springer Publishers, and co-authored Thanassoulis E., Portela Maria C. S., and Despić O. (2008) DEA – The Mathematical Programming Approach to Efficiency Analysis, in The Measurement of Productive Efficiency and Productivity Growth, (Hal Fried, Knox Lovell and Shelton Schmidt editors ) Oxford University Press. He has acted as Joint Editor of the Journal of Productivity Analysis and on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Operational Research, both key journals in the field of efficiency and productivity analysis. He was one of the first developers of DEA software including bespoke software for the then UK Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
